How to get Google to love you as a photographer

Wedding photography SEO workshop.

So a couple of weeks ago I found myself on a packed train, heading up to Manchester for a workshop run by photographer David Stubbs. After giving up ‘my other job’ (nearly a year ago now) to focus just on my wedding photography, sitting on said train full of people rushing off to work, I realised just how lucky I am to not now have a morning commute!!

Natural, unposed wedding photography.

David’s photography style and approach to weddings is pretty similar to mine, in that the pictures are taken naturally as they happen. You might have also heard the words ‘documentary’ or ‘reportage’ being mentioned when this type of photography is talked about, they are all the same thing and my photography is definitely this kinda thing!

Now as well as being a dab hand with a camera, David also knows a thing or two about SEO – this is how to get found and ‘liked’ by Google. The workshop was a bit different to other wedding photography workshops as there wasn’t a camera in sight!

Great John Street hotel.

It was held at Great John Street hotel which as it turns out is an old Victorian school house that has been transformed into a wedding venue licensed for civil ceremonies, very apt! After having a pretty yum cajun chicken and sweet potato fries for lunch (obviously I had worked very hard until this point) in the cosy library, I can see why the place is popular with brides and grooms.

Photography websites.

A lot of the day was spent trying to ‘think’ like Google – no mean feat seeing as though it is a computer and I am not!! As well as looking at some examples of other wedding photographers, we also looked at how we could improve our own websites. – So little by little over the weeks, now wedding season is slowing down, I’m going to be sat, looking at my website, making changes here and there and trying to actually write some stuff when I blog! Luckily I have a ton of amazing weddings that I’ve been at this year, so I have no excuse!!

Staffordshire wedding photographer page one!

The aim?! To get onto page one of Google, so that when couples are searching for a Staffordshire wedding photographer, there my website shall be…..that’s the plan anyway! Wish me luck!!

Need to learn about SEO? I thought my mind would be blown and my head would explode. Neither happened. David explained things in a very simple and straight forward way, that all made sense. Definitely recommended.
