I love these three photos for the same reason.
Taken at three different Staffordshire weddings, years apart, featuring different mother of the brides.
Not all of the couples I work with when photographing their weddings, want photos first thing, which obviously is totally fine and cool with me. The reason my wedding photography packages are based on hours, is so that you use the hours to suit what you want covered. I don’t think it’s up to me to dictate to you, what I think you should have captured. I can offer advice and guidance on this, but ultimately it’s your day and I’m there to get photos of what you think is important, if you want to chill in peace and get ready the morning of your wedding without me there, no problem, however, I would recommend me being there, even if just for an hour.
Even in just an hour it gives us all chance to hang out before stuff gets serious. I don’t always start taking photos straight away when I’m there during bridal or groom prep, I normally just get in with the chat, hang back and suss out dynamics and then float around a bit seeing what people are up to. Which brings me nicely to these two photos that I love so much.
I love the normality and necessity of each of these photos. The ladies in the photos are mothers of the bride and they’re both doing something so simple. Making a cuppa, getting some bacon ready for butties and cutting some bread. Away from the hustle and bustle of bride or groom prep, I like to find a moment of normality and these photos serve a very important part of the wedding day. As a documentary wedding photographer telling the story of your wedding day starts in the morning!
