Angela and Andrew decided to renew their vows at the same church they got married at 40 years ago, Colwich church in Little Haywood Staffordshire. Angela had contacted me a few weeks before to see if I was able to take some photos there and then afterwards at The Moat House. On a cold Saturday in February what else was I going to be doing!? She had warned me that Andrew rarely smiled so I might have my work cut out. Being a documentary photographer I find it works best capturing people in the moment, a real natural, un-posed moment. Having been doing that successfully for years, I knew this approach would work well with Andrew, going by the image above I think it did!
I met them both at the church with my cameras just as their closest family and friends were arriving, the vicar who took the renewal was a breath of fresh air, allowing me to take photos whilst he conducted the service. After the standard family group photos outside, Angela was keen to recreate a photo that was taken on their original wedding day. We found a similar spot and both of them stood in same pose as they had done all those years ago, it was a really special moment. After a few more couples portraits we headed to The Moat House where I was able to capture a few quick photos at this fantastic venue. I left Angela and Andrew just before their meal was due to be served, showing that even just by spending a couple of hours with them I was able to give them some great photos to add to their 40 years or memories.
