Monika & George’s Micro Wedding at Stafford Registry Office
As a wedding photographer, I’ve learned that some of the most memorable weddings don’t have to be the ones with hundreds of guests — they’re the ones that focus on what really matters. Monika and George’s micro wedding at Stafford Registry Office was exactly that: simple, relaxed, and full of genuine moments.
The County Buildings in Stafford, where the registry office is located, looked impressive as ever with its stone exterior and tall arched windows.
I met them both in the Drawing Room just before their ceremony. I know Monika was feeling self conscious being heavily pregnant, but she looked amazing in her minimalist wedding dress, carrying a small bouquet. For this wedding it was just me, the registrars and their two witnesses — a close friend of each who had come to share the moment. With only four people in attendance, the atmosphere was very laid-back and easy to photograph.
The Drawing Room is a traditional space with high ceilings, neutral tones and plenty of natural light. It’s a great setting for small ceremonies because it feels formal enough to be special, it can hold up to 50 guests but even with less the space didn’t feel overwhelming. As a photographer, I love how the natural tones of the room add depth to every image — warm woods, light stone, and just enough heritage detail to feel timeless. Also from my experience of photographing Staffordshire weddings here I can also say that the registrars are some of the best I’ve worked with.
With no large crowd or distractions, Monika and George were able to truly be present. Every word, every look, every small laugh between them carried meaning. It was short and simple, but full of emotion — the kind of moment that makes micro weddings so powerful. Just clear, honest vows and a few smiles between the couple and their witnesses. From a photographer’s perspective, these types of ceremonies are ideal for candid coverage: genuine expressions, minimal distractions, and a calm pace that lets each moment breathe.
After exchanging vows, Monika and George included a sand ceremony — a simple but meaningful visual element where they each poured coloured sand into one jar. The act added a bit of visual interest to the ceremony and gave me the chance to capture a few close-up detail shots that helped tell the story of the day. Photographing that moment was actually a first for me – In 12 years of photographing weddings!
Just before and during their ceremony it had thrown it down with rain, but once the formalities were complete, we stepped outside the County Buildings, the rain had stopped and was perfect for natural-looking photos of just the two of them. We used the steps, the stone arches, and a few nearby spots around St Martin’s Place for relaxed shots, we even managed to get into the park for some photos.
