Why natural wedding photography?

Wedding guests laughing

Natural wedding photography in Staffordshire.

When people ask me what I do I’ve now started telling them ‘I help couples re-live their wedding day through photos that are full of feeling.’

In all of the pictures I take at weddings I’m always trying to capture the feeling and emotion in what is happening. I also aim to get photos of things that would probably go un-noticed had I not been there with my cameras to preserve it. Real moments that are captured as they happen full of real feeling and emotion. The idea is to take these photos in a natural way so that it is the real moment that has been recorded. That means not interrupting or getting involved with the scene at all, so nothing changes and is the real moment – that’s why I often take photos without people realising. (Which definitely helps people who don’t like having their photo taken, they aren’t so aware and don’t feel so self conscious or awkward.)

My couples mostly book me for this reason, often along with the fact that they hate having their photo taken!

Documentary, reportage, candid, storytelling, unposed photography.

I’ve written before that all these words mean the same kind of thing and that they all describe how I approach my wedding photography. Someone who has also written some ace stuff on this is Alan Law – a top wedding photographer bod from down in gorgeous Cornwall. He sums up his style as ‘creative, relaxed and natural.’ – All good things. Now Alan has been a bit busy (not only photographing weddings and visiting MacDonalds) he has also set up a pretty awesome website called ‘This is reportage‘ which showcases the very best of documentary wedding photography.
